Letting AI Into Our Lives

Technology pundits predict that the technology trending in 2017 would be Artificial Intelligence (AI). Interestingly, an industry leader report has also revealed that the current average maturity score of AI is 55% in India, which is significantly higher than the 46% scored by the United States.

Surprised? Well, AI has touched our lives in more ways than we are consciously aware. Read on to see some of the ways we are already using AI in our lives.

VPA

You are meeting up with your friends and you come around to the penultimate question," Where do we go for lunch?" And Siri, Google Now or Cortana comes to your rescue. Virtual personal Assistants is one of the commonest forms of AI we use in our everyday life. Based on huge amounts of data collected they offer you most relevant and tailored information.

Driverless Cars

Driving to the venue, even as you dodge newbie drivers, speeding cab drivers and narrowly miss being hit by a bus, you wish you could have a car that could drive on its own. Not just wishful thinking - the driverless car is almost a reality. Artificial Intelligence powered self-driving cars are being built by Google and Tesla and are expected to hit the market sooner than you think.

Security

Worried about your bank account being misused online? Relax, AI can alert you within moments on any suspicious or out of the ordinary activity. Using machine learning based on the analysis of huge samples of data, AI can identify signs and indications of fraudulent transactions and draw the attention of the account holder to avert any such mishaps.

Chat bots

Browse any website and you will see the chat box pop up offering you help. Ask your questions and get answers in a jiffy, without spending time crawling the pages of the site for answers. You may not realize it, but very often, it's a chat bot replying to you, and not a real person. Yet another AI powered creation!

AI in Smart Homes

No more wondering if you turned off the gas at home when you are midflight, halfway across the globe. Smart homes powered by AI can sense the absence of people in the house and switch off gas stoves and non-essential electricity when you are on vacation. What's more, it can even order milk and essential supplies missing from your refrigerator, a day before your return based on information on your trip details extracted from your mail account!

Intelligent Suggestions

It's amazing how Spotify or Netflix appear to recommend movies that seem to be just the ones you are looking for. AI makes this possible through algorithms that predict your interests drawn from data it has been collecting on your previous selections.

AI offers an amazing array of possibilities. And we have just about experienced the tip of the iceberg. Its true potential is only limited by our imagination. It is now up to us to discover the how to harness its power and how better to make it work for us.
