Students of history and politics, have stated, we have been witnessing a period of political negativity, like we've rarely, if ever, witnessed, before, at least, in recent memory! Many current, and/ or recent polls, have shown, public confidence, approval of public officials, etc, are, at, or near, all - time lows, while discomfort, and fears, are near all - time highs! Now, more than ever, wouldn't we all benefit from electing public officials, who UNIFY us, rather than polarize, and seek a meeting - of - the - minds, for the common good, rather than any personal agenda, and/ or self - interest? With that in mind, this article will attempt to review, and consider, using the mnemonic approach, what this means and represents, and why, our nation would benefit, from this mind - set, and attitude.
1. Unite; urge; urgent; useful: When a leader unites people, the nation becomes stronger, and comforting! When there is greater unity, that official becomes more effective, and capable of urging people, to come together, in a meaningful, relevant way. Combining a sense of urgency, based on needs, relevance, and sustainability, is the best, most useful model!
2. Needs: Whose needs, will your public official, prioritize and address? We need to differentiate empty rhetoric, and promises, from quality, viable solutions, focused on the best interests, of all citizens, in a unified way!
3. Integrity; ideology; ideas; imagination: Why does it, so often, appear, the vast majority of our elected officials, are willing to maintain absolute integrity? Shouldn't we demand, their ideology, focuses on us, rather than their self - interest or political agenda? Don't we deserve leaders, with viable ideas, based on a meaningful imagination, and quality commitment?
4. Freedoms; fresh look; face facts: America, without the commitment to protecting all our freedoms and liberties, loses its unique identity, and way, it distinguishes, itself, from the rest of the world! President Trump has focused on serving his core supporters, or at least, making them, believe so, and often, continues to articulate, the same message, without facing the facts. He labels everything he disagrees with, or challenges, him, as Fake News, and has articulated a message, against our expected, freedoms of the press, and free speech!
5. Yes: We need to be served, and represented, by, individuals, willing to say, yes, to the possibilities, and proceed, with a quality, positive attitude! Today, we often witness, pervasive, negativity, and oppositional, vitriol - filled, rhetoric!
Wouldn't it be nice, if our elected officials, focused on the best ways, to UNIFY us? The only way, to Make America Great, is to focus, on all Americans!
