Song Titles in Which The Four Vowels Are All The Same

By Doug Poe

Usually I do pretty well on Jeopardy categories about words, but I missed all but two of the five on the show from February 28. The subject featured words in which the only vowel in the word appears four times, such as referee, Madagascar and cookbook.

Jambalaya was the very first answer, which happened to be the name of a famous song by Hank Williams, that prompted me to think of applying that subject to music. After a night of brainstorming, here are ten song titles which feature just one vowel that appears at least four times.

Two Doors Down by Dolly Parton

Along with the title track, this hit propelled Here You Come Again to the top of the album charts in 1977.

Alabama by Neil Young

Lynyrd Skynyrd took a stab at this song and its writer in the opening verse of "Sweet Home Alabama", reminding him that a Southern man does not want him around anyhow.

Voodoo by Black Sabbath

By the time Mob Rules came out in 1981 Ozzy Osbourne was long gone, and after this album so was Ronnie James Dio.

Helen Wheels by Paul McCartney

The title track was much more popular, but this single is still the most rocking tune from Band On the Run.

Faraway Land by Allison Krauss and Union Station

Still considered the queen of the new bluegrass revival of the Nineties, Krauss and her band finally released a live album in 2003 from which this song emerged.

Tennessee by Johnny Cash

Having Nashville as its Capitol city, it should come as little surprise that this state would appear as the title to a Johnny Cash song.

Let Me Be There by Olivia Newton John

The Austrailian was a virtually unknown when this first single came out in 1973, but not long after that she was not only a top selling singer but a star actress as well.

Lowdown Dog by Big Joe Turner

Many singers have covered this country classic, but the version by Turner has become the most enduring.

Green Eyes by Coldplay

The alternative rock band led by Chris Martin placed this track on their second album, A Rush of Blood To the Head.

Still Fighting It by Ben Folds

Rockin' the Suburbs and this tune produced somewhat of a comeback for Folds, who had years before split with the two other guys from the Ben Folds Five.
