Are You A Fit LEADER?

By Richard Brody

Many of us, who have been intimately involved in developing leaders, feel we are experiencing a period of a general dearth of genuine leadership. In my, over four decades of identifying, qualifying, training, developing, and consulting to thousands of actual, and/ or potential leaders, I have tried to encourage individuals to better understand the necessities, and prepare accordingly. Do you believe you might be that rare person, and could you become a fit, relevant, meaningful, effective, empathetic, sustainable LEADER, who will make things better, and leave your group, stronger? With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly review, consider and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what it means and requires to lead.

1. Listen; learn; like: No individual is a born leader, and therefore, one must be ready, willing and able, to listen, before speaking, learn from every conversation, and seek to make a difference, for the better. How can one maintain his persistence, unless he truly likes leading, and realizes he must earn the respect of others, by proceeding with an open - mind, and making quality decisions?

2. Empathy; emphasis: When this becomes one's focus, consistently, he becomes capable of proceeding with genuine empathy, and, thus, placing his emphasis, on serving others, for the common good, and addressing their needs, goals, perceptions and priorities.

3. Attitude; aptitude; attention: One must proceed forward, maintaining a positive, can - do, attitude. To do so, requires willingness and training, and developing the aptitude, based on relevant skills. Only then, will your attention be, on the most relevant issues and priorities.

4. Delve deeply; decisions; deliver: Go beyond the surface, and always, delve deeply into your options, and the Beth path to choose. Great leaders make decisions based on thorough consideration, and expand their personal comfort zones, to act wisely. Good intentions is not leading, however, and one becomes a leader, when he delivers the finest service and representation.

5. Energy; excellence; example; endurance: Stakeholders are strengthened and inspired, when they are led, by individuals with high, motivating energy. Never settle for good- enough, but rather, a true leader demands his utmost level of excellence. Will you be a good example, who inspires others, and have the endurance to go on, when the rest, of the packs, gives up?

6. Relevant; reliable; responsive; realistic; rationale: Don't just do, but proceed in a relevant way. How will you prove, you are reliable? Will you pay sufficient attention, to be realistic and responsive? What are you ready to do, to articulate your rationale, in an inspirational, motivational manner?

How will you become a fit LEADER? What drives you forward?
